Additional Property Attributes

The property is on the National Register of Historic Places. The community was planning to use the property as a museum after cleanup. They have replaced the roof to preserve the old building. A non-profit is currently looking at leasing the property, cleaning up the asbestos and lead paint and using it as a museum.

Former Use: The site was acquired by the Town of Silver City in 1925 from the Silver Valley Water Works Co. It was subsequently used for storage of transformers and materials such as gravel, dirt, piping, meters, fire hydrants, and cement. Uncontrolled dumping occurred on some portions of the site. The historic building was used as a residence for city employees until 1967, and then used as a maintenance shop for the Utilities Department until about 1984.
