Additional Property Attributes

The Phase I ESA identified the following RECs for the site: 1) Historic use of the railroad may have impacted the surficial soils with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. 2) Large quantities of metal stored at the site may have impacted the surficial soils with metal contamination. 3) Large quantities or railroad ties along the northern edge of the property may have impacted surficial soils with wood treatment products. 4) Asbestos-containing material has been verified in the floor tiles in the office area, in the black concrete coating at the base of the storage bins, and the silver-colored coating on the metal grain silos. The Phase I ESA recommends conducting Phase II soil sampling for PAHs, metals, and common rodenticides, after debris has been removed, in areas of staining and around the perimeters of the buildings. In addition, the Phase I recommends removing the asbestos-containing material prior to demolishing the grain storage silos or office building.

Former Use: This 5-acre site, adjacent to Interstate 29, contains former Purina Mill grain silos. The site has remained unused for years. The City of North Kansas City desires to have the silos removed from the property, and oversee development of the site for commercial reuse.
