Additional Property Attributes

All hazardous materials were removed from the Grant Warehouse property prior to demolition of the former structure in order to provide a clean property for residential/mixed-use redevelopment. Through a significant collaboration effort between EPA, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, the City of Portland Brownfield Program, and the formerly Portland Development Commission (now Prosper), pooled resources to complete cleanup at the site and secured a no further action finding from the DEQ in July 2006. The property has met the community goals of removing harmful contaminants from the neighborhood and will provide an opportunity for community-based redevelopment in the form of much needed housing. Affordable housing is slated to be constructed on the site in 2018. https://www.jldllc.com/2017/02/grant-warehouse/ http://pcrihome.org/grant-warehouse

Former Use: This corner warehouse was used as a metallurgical laboratory for over 20 years. In October 1998, Portland Police responding to a dispute at the address and called emergency responders when they found large quantities of chemical waste in the building. Chemicals were stored in containers ranging from small vials to industrial-sized vats. Some 55-gallon drums were stacked four high. The chemical wastes included corrosives, oxidizers, poisons, flammables and potentially explosive compounds. Prosper complied with all work plan, schedule, and terms and conditions requirements. All grant funds, and an additional $161,404 in funding provided by Portland Brownfield Program, were expended in completing cleanup. A no further action finding from the DEQ was secured in July 2006.
