Additional Property Attributes

The property was adequately characterized to allow for cleanup planning. The Chrome Engineering building was cleaned by removing contents, including regulated materials and the building was demolished. The property is currently vacant with only a concrete slab from the building remaining. The property is secured with fencing and concrete barriers. (PPF attached to QR 5, 10/1/05-12/31/05)

Former Use: The property lies in an area that was formerly inundated by Johnson's Creek, an embayment of Bridgeport Harbor. In the mid to late 1930s the area was filled increasing the property's topographic surface above mean sea level. Chrome Engineering's electroplating operations and Bridgeport Precision Metal Finishing Company's metal grinding and polishing operations. These operations were performed on the property from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. The buildings were used for waste storage in the 1990s. The on-site building was demolished in 2004. The property is currently vacant with only a concrete slab. There are no buildings on-site and is secured with fencing and concrete barriers. The property is currently owned by the city and is zoned for light industrial uses.
