Additional Property Attributes

The site is a closed, catholic parochial school, that has been vacant for more than 2 years, and the Catholic Diocese planned to sell the property off. The City of Templeton was concerned that a buyer might not refurbish or care for the school building properly, so the City sought to buy the property from the Diocese and rehabilitate the building into a community center, available to all for special events, receptions, and other community activities. Concerns about many building materials that could have ACM within this 1960s era building had deterred the City from proceeding with the building without technical and financial assistance from the IDNR's 128(a) program, especially in regard to ACM inspection and removal assistance. 128(a) funds were used to conduct a certified ACM inspection of the entire school structure, to conduct a Phase I on behalf of the City to meet AAI requirements prior to taking title, and matching funds were provided for ACM removal post-acquisition. (The State LRP does not enroll, or issue NFA Certificates for, asbestos-only contaminated sites.)

Former Use: The site was first developed as a parochial school in 1964, and had served that purpose until 2009, when the school was merged with another community and the building closed. The Catholic Diocese of Northwest Iowa has owned the property historically.
