Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Karchmer Oil Field property is located in a region of southern Illinois with an abundance of oil wells, in the southwest portion of Centralia in Clinton County, Illinois. The property is approximately 50 acres in size and covered primarily with farm fields, grasses, scrub trees and established woodland. In the early 1940s, oil exploration, extraction, and processing activities began at the site and surrounding areas. The majority of oil field activities on the property appears to have begun in the early 1940s, continuing through the late 1950s. Aerial photographs from 1971 to the present indicate the site has been primarily unused, except for farming and occasional pipe storage for the last 40 years. The site is currently owned by a single, private party. The site was originally owned by several families who used thier parcels for either farming, the oil industry (exploration and extraction), or both.
