Additional Property Attributes

The Ris Paper Building property has been targeted for residential use by the St. Clair Superior Development Corporation for 12 years. The community supports the demolition of the building and remediating the property for residential use. The developers have hired an experienced architectural firm to preserve and enhance the historical and residential charachter of the neighborhood, and provide greenspace and lake views to residents. Redeveloping the property is considered critical to the long-term stabilization of the neighborhood. (PPF attached to QR 5, 10/1/04-12/31/04)

Former Use: In 1944 an explosion at the nearby East Ohio Gas Company facility destroyed much of the neighborhood and this building, the RIS Paper Building, was not redeveloped. Currently, only 10% of the building is useable and houses offices and storage spaces. Heavy equipment is illegally stored on the property. The applicant would like to redevelop the property with 37 market-rate townhomes.
