Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Based on historical information, Central States Gas & Electric Co. (CSEC) began producing carbureted water gas at the Site circa 1931. After approximately 15 years of manufactured gas production, CSEC ceased this production and began distributing propane gas to the Sterling community. In August 1951, Iowa Electric Light and Power Company purchased CSEC and began distributing natural gas to the Sterling community. Public Service Company of Colorado then purchased the Site in April 1986 and began utilizing the Site for equipment storage and as a natural gas pressure regulating station. The current owner purchased the Site in August 2005 and underground equipment assocaited with the former manufactured gas plant opertions (i.e., concrete tar vault) was excavated/removed in October 2007. The last of the remaining onsite buildings were demolished in August 2008. The Site has remained vacant since. Since CDPHE has completed the Phase I, Phase II , and Additional Phase II activities assocaited with this TBA, the TBA Applicant (Centennial Mental Health Center [CMHC]) has revised their plans with the owner to accept an additional donation of land, located south and adjacent to this Site, to be included in their redevelopment plans(i.e., Sections C&D). As of January 2012, CDPHE is in the process of updating the Phase I for Sections A & B, and is writing an additional Phase I ESA for Sections C & D.
