Based on our findings, INTERA recommends removing the drums, tires, and miscellaneous
debris piles located throughout the Site for disposal. The drums, tires, and miscellaneous debris
should be property characterized in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations prior
to disposal. Further, INTERA recommends additional Site security measures, such as fencing
and/or more frequent Site inspections, in an attempt to minimize or eliminate future trespassing
and miscellaneous dumping activities.

Additional Property Attributes

CARE 66, a housing non-profit, purchased this property after the Phase I assessment and is working to gain financing for a mixed income transit oriented residential community.

Former Use: The Site is located in Gallup, New Mexico, within a primarily residential area. Areas of commercial use are located to the west and east of the Site. The Site geology consists of the Dilco Coal Member of the Crevasse Canyon Formation. This is described as containing interbedded light to dark-gray and brown shale and siltstone; white to very pale orange to yellowish brown, very fine-grained to medium-grained, well sorted to poorly sorted sandstone; minor carbonaceous shale; lignite; and lenticular coal beds. The underlying geology results in surface soil color observed at the Site that ranges from light brown or tan to almost black because of the presence of coal. The depth to groundwater at the Site is not known. The Site is not within the alluvial aquifer located in Gallup (along the Rio Puerco and its associated drainages). Groundwater flow direction to the west of the Site is believed to be toward the north within the Little Rio Puerco Arroyo, feeding into the Rio Puerco. Depth to groundwater to the west of the Site has been measured at approximately 24 ft bgs. The Site is vacant, undeveloped land. City Directory information implies that the Site has never been developed. Historical topographic maps and aerial photographs as well as ownership interview information confirm the Site has not been previously developed.
