Cleanup/Treatment Implemented: Y
Cleanup/Treatement Categories:
Addl Cleanup/Treatment info: Alternative 3 (Targeted Soil Excavation and Disposal, and Groundwater Monitoring) is the most feasible and appropriate cleanup alternative. This remedial approach immediately remediates and removes areas with the highest contaminant concentrations and expeditiously minimizes potential exposure pathways. The approach promotes redevelopment of the Site by cleaning up the Site to levels below RCG IDCSLs and it is the most health protective option for future Site occupants and construction workers. This alternative for the Site would help the City of Wabash achieve its goal of retail/commercial redevelopment.

Additional Property Attributes

Redevelopment plans for the 0.65-acre Site are currently being reviewed, as the City has a potential developer that would like to re-use the Site building as a restaurant on the lower floors of the three-story building with residential on upper floors. In September and October 2019 - 4,304 tons of metals and PCB contaminated soil was removed from the site for disposal, including petroleum, PCB, and metals-impacted soil and groundwater beneath a truck scale, the Site was backfilled, and four (4) monitoring wells were installed for quarterly groundwater sampling/analysis.

Former Use: The Site was occupied by the Abe Sposeep & Sons scrap metal processing and recycling company from 1934 to 2003. The City of Wabash is the current site owner. Site is vacant with a 13,000 ft2 bldg (blt 1890). Abe Sposeep & Sons, Inc. (metal recycling and scrap processing) was on-site until 2003.
