Additional Property Attributes

The City of Wallowa and Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center, a non-profit and the future lessee, are working to identify and remove any remaining environmental barriers to the propertys redevelopment into an interpretive center.

Former Use: The property was donated to the USDA Forest Service in 1936. The ranger house, office, warehouse, gas/oil house, and storage building were constructed between 1937 and l938. The site served as the headquarters for the Bear-Sleds Ranger District until 1979. The site was then used to house USDA Forest Service employees until approximately 2006. The site has been vacant since approximately 2006. A Land Use Bill was signed by President Obama on August 10, 2012 to convey the site into the ownership of the City of Wallowa. The City of Wallowa took title to the property in November 2012.
