This property is listed in the CERCLIS database, ID# VTD118078989. In 2000 it was listed as a Site Awaiting NPL Decision, and the last update to the database entry was in 2001 when the site was listed as low priority for further assessment. A Preliminary Assessment, Site Inspection and Site Reassessment have been performed by U.S. EPA on the property.

Former Use: PROPERTY EVALUATION This 18.55 acre property is located along the eastern and western banks of the Sleepers River near High Street in St. Johnsbury. Four buildings reside on the property, two of them remaining from the historic Fairbanks scale manufacturing operation. The property is located in both Industrial and Residential C zoning districts. Portions of the property are served by municipal water and sewer. The site is currently the home of a warehouse, storage buildings, and contractor offices. Considerations for redevelopment include building construction, improvements or replacements, general site clean up & grading, stream bank stabilization, safety improvements, additional site infrastructure and/or enhancement of community recreational assets. These proposed reuses are too general at this time to determine conformance with Town zoning bylaws. Although these proposed reuses are general, most involve maintaining the current and historical industrial use of the site. Recreational use has been suggested by the community in the past as a desired use for the property. The property also holds potential to be developed into green space as much of it is already open space.
