Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site appears to have been initially developed for commercial/industrial purposes prior to 1896 when a blacksmith shop was present on the south portion of the site, with residential properties located on the northern parcels. By 1910 the blacksmith shop had been replaced with the main brick building, known as the Elkhart Armory which was used as an automotive garage and by C.G. Conn, Band Instruments. It appears that the building remained a garage until around 1945 when it was converted to a roller rink and grocer (A&P Grocery). By 1971, Adams Inc. Office Machines and Equipment occupied the building and utilized it for commercial purposes. By 1983 the building operated as a liquor store and continued to do so until at least 2006. The residential structures present on the north parcels were removed at some point between 1950 and 1968.
