Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site is located at 406 Dawson Street, in an area mixed of commercial and residential land use, which was developed in the mid-to-late 1800s. The site was initially divided into ten parcels which included various commercial and residential purposes throughout the years; however, due to a series of parcel combinations throughout time, the site is now one parcel. It is currently unused and does not contain any structures, although concrete and asphalt ground coverings from prior uses still remain in some areas. The remaining portions of the site are vegetated, mainly with grasses, and several trees. The site is located at 406 Dawson Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, and is assigned Parcel ID number R05409-034-015-000. It consists of approximately 0.92 acres and is described on the New Hanover County website as lots 1, 2, and 3 of Block 34. The owner, Ms. Jayne Beuchler, was able to provide information regarding the history of the site. Ms. Beuchler reported the following: The last use of the filling station on the corner of 5th Avenue and Dawson Street was 1960. The filling station was vacant in 1961 and 1962. From 1963 to 1965 and 1968 to 1969, Lewis Auto Sales rented the filling station parcel. In 1966 and 1967 the parcel was vacant. Superior Motors operated on the parcel from 1970 to 1991. Gas pumps were removed from the parcel when it transitioned from use as a gas station to use for auto sales. Ms. Beuchlers father acquired the site in 1979 and Ms. Beuchler inherited the site in 1992. The USTs onsite were filled with water sometime prior to 1992.
