Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site has a varied history. Its first documented use was in 1888/1890 as the German Hotel but it may also have been used during this period in conjunction with the former carriage warehouse in the Steamboat Block. Historical research done by others suggests that carriages may have been wheeled across the street and repaired at the Site. By 1930, the Swift & Company cream station operated at the Site. During the 1940s and 1950s the Site was occupied by Stickneys Body and Paint Shop, then during the 1960s through early 1970s by Helena Glass & Paint Company. It appears the building was separated into two suites in the 1970s. The west suite was occupied by lawyers, an insurance company, and an interior decorating business from the 1970s through 2000. The east suite was occupied by three custom framing businesses during this period (Colemans, Schultes, and Bears Den). During this period, the upper level of the building was used to give art lessons.
