Additional Property Attributes

The site is developed with Building 13 on the former Charleston Naval Shipyard. Building 13 was constructed in 1909 as a clothing factory and the boiler room was constructed in 1917. The building was later converted for use as the Quality Assurance Office for materials testing. Asbestos was identified in onsite structures, which must be abated prior to demolition or renovation.

Former Use: The site is developed with Building 13 and associated boiler room of the former Charleston Naval Shipyard. Originally built as a clothing factory, the building was converted as use as the Quality Assurance Office. The use and presence of various chemicals were identified as RECs. Additionally, the site contains several solid waste management units (SWMUs) and USTs, which have been closed by the applicable regulatory agencies. Several offsite SWMUs were identified, but are all the responsibility of the Navy to remediate to industrial uses. The structure is currently in declining condition and is in need to renovation of demolition. Asbestos was identified in the onsite structure, which must be abated prior to renovation or demolition.
