Additional Property Attributes

Historic industrial operations at this site in downtown SLC included over 75 years of activity, including as a former scrap and salvage yard. In 1999 this site was identified as one of the higher priority sites in an evaluation of a Brownfields Preliminary Conditions Report, prepared for the SLC Redevelopment Agency, which assessed over 20 properties for the potential for environmental impacts based on historical uses in the Gateway District. The site entered the VCP on 12-11-07 and was characterized with contaminants above screening levels with heavy metals in soils (lead, arsenic, chromium), along with PCBs, PNAs, and petroleum hydrocarbons in soils. Groundwater was found to contain benzene above the MCL of 5 ppb. Remedial activities were conducted in the fall of 2008 with over 10,000 tons of contaminated soil removed from the site and disposed of at a regulated landfill. A Site Management Plan (SMP) monitored the groundwater for benzene for 2 quarters until benzene was no longer detected above the MCL. At this point the SMP was discontinued. An Environmental Covenant runs with the land. The future land use is mixed, with residential and commercial uses planned. A Certificate of Completion was issued in May 2009. This site was presented with a 2009 Utah Pollution Prevention Award.

Former Use: Historic industrial operations at this site in downtown SLC included over 75 years of activity, including 45 years as a former scrap and salvage yard. Two petroleum ASTs were once located on the site and removed.
