Additional Property Attributes

The historical use of the site for residential purposes since as early as 1922 which appeared to be associated with military operations in the vicinity of the current Site buildind as well as the development of the Buzzard Point Boat Yard and Super Salvage, Inc facilities in 1964 is a good reason to classify this Site as a REC. In addition to this is that the Site was identified as a Resource Concervation and Recovery Act- Conditionally Exemp Small Quantity Geneator (RCRA-CESQ) and evidence of current, on site hazardous or regulated waste generation and storage was observed during Site inspection and lack of materials labelling, condition od material storage areas and general poor housekeeping observed is another reason to classify this site as a REC. Evidence of the presence of several municipal solid waste dumpsters associated with the site both near the main Site structure and on the piblic right of way space and the fact that the site has historically maintained gasoline USTs is another crucial factor of classifying this Site as a REC.

Former Use: The Site consist of the Super Salvage, Inc. property located northwest of the intersection of First Street SW and S Street SW. The Site is bound by First Street SW to the east; S Street SW to the south; a "piblic right of way" parcel denoted as " reservation243" followed by R Street SW to the north; and to the west by a stormwater management pond and 1714 Second Street SW, followed by Second Street, SW. The Site is accessed by pedestrain entrance along First Street SW. A truck loading bay is located along S Street SW to the west of the main Site structure. A review of the historical information indicates that the Site has been used for residential purposed since as early as 1922 which appear to be associated with military operations in the vicinity of the current Site building; before development of the Buzzard Point Boat Yard and the Super Salvage, Inc. facilities in 1961. The site is currently being used as a full service salvage company that specializes in recycling copper, brass, aluminum, cast iron, steel, appliances, chillers, condensers and general metal-based scraps. The District of Colubia Office of Tax and Revenue website indicates that the Site is owned by Super Salvage, Inc. Robert Kaplan.
