Property Highlights

The majority of the Property was historically occupied by dwellings and associated outbuildings/garages from the late 1800s until these structures were demolished between the 1960s and 1990s. Additionally, a large apartment building (with associated outbuildings/garages) was present on the southeast portion of the Property from 1901 to the 1980s. A restaurant/bar was present in the basement of this building between 1962 and the 1980s. It was indicated that the former apartment building, as well as one of the former dwellings (1954 E. 70th St.), had utilized fuel oil for heating purposes (see Section 4.1 for further discussion). Furthermore, a gas station occupied the southwest portion of the Property between 1923 and the 1970s. It appears that auto servicing was conducted, in addition to gasoline dispensing, from at least 1948 to the 1970s. The service station building appears to have been vacant for several years and was demolished in the 1980s, which is when several USTs were removed.
