The Kansas Department of Health and Environment received a Brownfields application from the City of Garnett for their property located at 135 East 4th Street in Garnett, KS. They requested a Phase I BTA for a redevelopment project. The application was approved on May 20, 2014. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at 135 East 4th Avenue in Garnett, Kansas. The BTA was completed for the City who plans to facilitate redevelopment of the vacant property into a community theatre. The Phase I BTA revealed no evidence of Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) in connection with the property, and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: Current property ownership is Chamber Ps Community Theatre, Inc. who obtained the property from The People's Theatre, Inc. in 2014. 1884-1892, property unoccupied. 1892-1905, Grand Army of the Republic building has expanded onto the western portion of the property including storage room, printing shop. 1905-1913, same but property also has a bicycle shop. 1913-1926, grocery store building on southern half of property. 1926-2002, same buildings with different tenants including office, farm implements storage, feed house. 2002, fire destroyed on-site buildings. 2002-present, burnt buinding was razed, currently is a vacant property no improvements.
