Additional Property Attributes

On June 24, 2008, a utility pole containing three transformers was cut down in an act of theft. PCBs from the transformers spilled onto the ground around the pole. In an effort to move the transformers, additional oil was spilled on to the site, across Riverside Drive and onto a site across the road. Mountain Environmental Group MEG conducted an investigation and oversaw the cleanup. Oil stained soil and asphalt was excavated & removed from the site. Confirmation tests were performed and results will be incorporated into the NC State Brownfields Agreement. In 2013, the City of Asheville purchased the property; it is scheduled for demolition as part of the River Arts District redevelopment.
