Additional Property Attributes

The Mt. Chalchihuitl Property has been the source of turquoise and lead and other metals for centuries. Two historic mines are located within the property - the Cash Entry mine (galena) and the Grand Central mine (silver, lead, zinc). Santa Fe County is interested in purchasing the property to add to the Cerrillos Hills Historic Park. Future use includes open space preservation, hiking trails, and educational/interpretive tours.

Former Use: The property has been the source of turquoise and lead and other metals for centuries. Numerous abandoned mines exist across the Site, including Mt. Chalchihuitl, Cash Entry, Franklin, Bethsheba, and Grand Central mines.
