Additional Property Attributes

The property has been utilized for numerous commercial and residential purposes from at least 1886. Activities on the site have included a liquor store, drug store, hotel apartments, baths, doctor's offices, grocery, domestic dwellings and laundry. The Majestic Hotel was constructed on the property in 1926. Historically, the Hotel operation consisted of four buildings: Lanai Suites, Lanai Tower, Red Brick building, and Yellow Brick building. The City of Hot Springs entered the property in the Arkansas Brownfield Program in October of 2013. A fire on the property in February of 2014 burned and partially demolished the "Yellow Brick" portion of the hotel. The remaining structures on the property were demolished in the spring of 2016 after the City of Hot Springs took title of the site. A comprehensive site assessment was completed on the site in November 2017 and revealed only minor lead contamination in a small area of soil. The soil was remediated in October 2018. The property has been remediated to residential cleanup levels that allows for unrestricted use of the site. The City of Hot Springs plans to redevelop the property for use as a public recreational space. Redevelopment has not begun in August 2020.
