Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Locally known as the Margaritaville building and it associated parking lot, the structure is located in the heart of Ottawas vibrant downtown commercial district and has been vacant for approximately 6 to 8 years. Prior to its abandonment, a prior owner began a remodeling project to establish a bar & grill proposed to be called Margaritaville. Remodeling activities stopped partially through the construction process and the building and parking lot were vacated. Concerns related to the management of suspect asbestos containing building materials during the remodeling process is a primary concern along with the former printing operation depicted by Sanborn Fire Insurance maps. An additional complicating factor is that the north perimeter brick wall along the adjacent alley is in eminent danger of collapse. In order to prevent the collapse, which could potentially expose residents to damaged asbestos and create a safety hazard, the City has moved forward with acquiring the building under the Abandoned Property Provisions of the State Statute. The City acquired the property on October 28, 2014 and intends to stabilize the wall, assess any Recognized Environmental Conditions, and then attempt to position it for resale or redevelopment.
