Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at 309 Commercial in Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas. The BTA was completed in conjunction with three other BTAs at 301, 305, and 321 Commercial, which are targeted for redevelopment and expansion of the YMCA facility currently residing at 321 Commercial. The BTA was completed for the City of Atchison, who is applying for a Community Development Block Grant on behalf of the YMCA. Based on the Phase I Report, no Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) were identified in connection with the property at 309 Commercial, and the property has been cleared for redevelopment. A NESHAP Asbestos Survey was also conducted on the building located at the property, as an additional scope outside of the ASTM 1527-13 Phase I Assessment. Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were identified in the building as approximately 500 square feet of floor tile in the front store area. Abatement of these ACM will likely be required prior to renovation and/or demolition activities. The applicant will be advised to work with the KDHE Asbestos Control Section to comply with all Federal and State regulations with respect to the asbestos.

Former Use: The property has been developed since at least 1883 with commercial businesses. Currenty the property is vacant and owned by Thayer Supply Co.
