Property Highlights

YMCA of Greater Louisville is partnering with the University of Louisville on this site to merge YMCA youth development and healthy lifestyle programs with health care and health education services to be provided by the University. Louisville Metro Government has provided various types of support for this project through the design phase, and will be realigning 18th Street immediately adjacent to the site to provide better service for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. YMCA is planning to submit an application for a FY15 Site Specific Cleanup grant to US EPA to carry out the remediation alternative form the ABCA.

Former Use: Former cigarette factory that was purchased by the YMCA. Foundry sand containing metals was found beneath a concrete slab. The YMCA utilizing grant funds and their funds removed and cleanup the site. Will be used as new YMCA and health campus. As of this submittal the engineering cap has not been placed. Olga Perry of the EPA allowed the YMCA more time since contaminated materials have been removed and properly disposed and since the EPA only paid for disposal.
