Additional Property Attributes

This is one of the largest housing redevelopment projects in Des Moines. This residential development, known as Jackson Crossing, consists of 242 apartment units that were built between 2016-2017, in four buildings on this property. The design of the complex centers around connectability and walkability to the downtown, which is approximately 1 mile away. This project has had significant, positive impact on encouraging investment in an area that was once a blighted, underutilized area of the inner city. The complex features a bicycle self-rental station, fitness center, community garden, and pet park on-site.

Former Use: This site, located at the juncture of Jackson St./Granger Ave./ and Indianola Ave. is a conglomeration of a number of small parcels that had various uses as light industrial, commercial, and railroad right-of-way uses over the last 125 years. All properties on the site are either vacant, abandoned, or underutilized. The Neighborhood Development Corporation (NDC) seeks to acquire these parcels, remove remaining buildings, and prepare the site for a mixed-use development. NDC is a non-profit, community-based redevelopment entity. 128(a) funds are assisting with their pre-purchase environmental due diligence costs, as based on the size and history of the site, due diligence investment is cost-prohibitive to NDC.
