Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject property is identified as 102 East Gibbs Street, Tracts 4 and 5, Union City, Tennessee, and consists of two parcels totaling 1.44 acres. The subject property is vacant with the foundation and debris from demolition of a former manufacturing building.The property is currently zoned B2-Business Intermediate. The subject property was developed by 1902 as Mayer Chair Company, a chair manufacturer. Operations included woodworking, machining, dipping, and sawing. By 1907, the building was razed and the property remained primarily vacant until construction of a dwelling on the northern portion of the property by 1912. By 1923, the Brown Shoe Company constructed a three-story manufacturing building that contained 57,822 square feet on the subject property, and operated as stitch-down plant and women's welt construction (shoe stitching) plant until 1946, when operations converted to the manufacturing of Buster Brown children's shoes. Historical records document that the subject building was occupied by Brown Shoe Company from at least 1923 until the early 1990's. From 1995 to 1999, the property was occupied by AG South (supplier of professional lawn and garden turf equipment and sprayers) and H Leveton & Sons Company (wholesale shoe store). The building remained vacant from 2003 until 2013, when the building was demolished.
