Additional Property Attributes

The Brooke Glass Company, Inc. property is one of a select few out of over 40 brownfields in a two-county, economically-depressed region which has all of the following: probable low to moderate environmental impacts, existing infrastructure, excellent highway access, and an owner interested in moving forward with redevelopment. (PPF - Brooke Glass Company, Inc., 3/20/06)

Former Use: The subject property was primarily used for glass manufacturing from 1879 through 2005. Riverside Glass Works began operations at the site in 1879. In 1906, the company operations were sold to Crescent Glass and continued through 1982. The company then became Brooke Glass Corporation, Inc. (BGCI) in 1983 headed by Ellery Worthen and Henry Rithen Sr., under the ownership of Henry Rithen III. Brooke Glass ceased operations in 2001. Between 2001 and 2005 glass operations were limited to decorating only (etching and painting) when Variety Glass leased building space from (BGCI). At present the subject property is vacant and not in use.
