Additional Property Attributes

This property is scheduled to be redeveloped with a multi-use event center. The center will be used for sports events, concerts, public events, etc. A portion of this site is already under a NC Brownfields Agreement.

Former Use: The Rocky Mount Event Center (RMEC) land assemblage primarily consists of parcels located adjacent to Albemarle Avenue, Ivy Street, Northeast (NE) Main Street and Atlantic Avenue. The subject site is located in Rocky Mount, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, and consists of 27 parcels with a total area of the land assemblage approximately 10.83 acres. The parcel numbers for the site are 3850-71-1396, 3850-71-1241, 3850-71-3129, 3850-70-2870, 3850-71-4151, 3850-71-5237, 3850-71-5240, 3850-70-6909, 3850-70-5983, 3850-70-4904, 3850-70-4953, 3850-70-4889, 3850-70-5838, 3850-70-5877, 3850-70-6805, 3850-70-4810, 3850-70-3794, 3850-70-3679, 3850-70-4779, 3850-70-5747, 3850-70-5742, 3850-70-5639, 3850-70-4666, 3850-70-4610, 3850-70-4559, 3850-70-4588 and a railroad parcel which does not have parcel number. At the time of site inspection approximately 15 of the 27 parcels contained vacant grassland, gravel parking lots or asphalt-surfaced parking lots. Thirteen (13) structures remain on the subject site and are located in four general areas of the site: west (railroad platform), northwest (Pemberton building), central/east (Ivy St. buildings) and the southeast (Stokes Mortuary buildings). The currently occupied buildings are used by a heating, cooling and plumbing general contractor (Pemberton, Inc.) and a funeral home (Stokes Mortuary, Inc.). Five structures are vacant and include the railroad platform and four residential and commercial buildings on Ivy St. Based on historical information and review of aerial photographs, the subject site has been developed since at least 1896, when dwellings, a boarding house and a planing mill occupied the property. Later, tobacco warehouses dominated the land assemblage. More recent development on the subject site includes a large asphalt-paved parking lot and installation of infrastructure.
