Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Property Description: The property was used as the storage site for flotation mill tailings from the 1930's until 1988. After that time, the majority of existing mine waste on the site was consolidated and capped in the Emperius Tailings Pile. However, this activity left the site without top soil, and the site has been largely unvegetated since. In addition to remnant waste sources of heavy metals from onsite mine waste storage, the site is also downstream of the Creede Mining District, and accumulates heavy metals from this area as well.

Cleanup work was completed in 2019. Shortly after cleanup was completed, a flood wiped out 60% of the work that was completed. CDPHE and the Lower Willow Creek Restoration Company are working on a covenant to the land that was damaged by the flood.
