Former Use: This former auto manufacturing plant is a 48 acre property with 900,000 sq. feet of outmoded buildings that supported an automotive carpet manufacturing business from 1919 through the end of 2008. The company was the largest employer in Carlisle, once employing as many as 3,500 people. When it closed in 2008, the last 350 jobs were lost. IAC is located in a critical area, between the Carlisle Expo Center, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and Downtown Carlisle two blocks away. The IAC site has known releases of hazardous wastes to soil and groundwater including arsenic, volatile and semi-volatile organics, and metals. Initial assessment and remedial planning is underway. The property has been formally entered into the PADEP�s Land Recycling Program and demolition efforts are expected to be completed in mid-2015. With cleanup planned to only industrial levels at this time, future redevelopers are likely to need additional assessment to support reuse.
