Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject property was first developed as the Merrill Manufacturing Company (sash and door manufacturing) facility prior to 1884. The site was occupied by the Stange and Mihills Saw Mill, Sash, Door, and Blind Factory by 1888 and the A. H. Stange Saw Mill, Sash, Door, and Blind Factory occupied the site between 1892 and 1914. Additional structures on the site between 1892 and 1913 included several "dry kilns", a refuse burner, and expanded areas of the manufacturing building. Other areas of the A.H. Stange facility include a "glue room", "priming room", and a paint shop. The site was acquired by the Wisconsin Window Unit Company (woodworking and window manufacturing) sometime between 1942 and 1946. The former saw mill was removed sometime between 1948 and 1955. Between 1946 and 1955, the manufacturing building was expanded and the lumber shed was constructed to the northeast of the manufacturing building. Documents reviewed for the site indicate that the dip tank associated with wood treatment was installed in the manufacturing building in 1956. Additional expansion of the manufacturing buildings occurred between 1954 through the 1990s.
