Additional Property Attributes

The Property was developed as the Owens-Illinois Charlotte (also known as Owens-Brockway Glass) glass manufacturing plant circa 1962, and included two glass furnaces. The current plan for a portion of the Property consists of a liquid and dry fertilizer storage and distribution operation. A 45,000-square foot storage facility will be constructed on the northeastern portion of the Property adjacent to the existing rail spur. Approximately 2.5 million gallons of liquid fertilizer will be stored at this facility. Planning is underway for the future use of the existing glass factory and remaining portions of the Property. More investment and jobs are planned for the future use.

Former Use: The Property was developed as the Owens-Illinois Charlotte (also known as Owens-Brockway Glass) glass manufacturing plant circa 1962, and included two glass furnaces. Various upgrades were integrated between 1962 and 1978, including an additional glass manufacturing furnace and associated equipment. This operation continued until 2010, at which point the plant ceased operation and much of its equipment was removed. Prior to its use for glass manufacturing, the Property included a residence at its eastern end, near the intersection of Packard Highway and the rail line. The remainder of the Property was utilized for agricultural purposes, prior to the construction of the manufacturing plant.
