Additional Property Attributes

This is part of a 16-acre site that was formerly a petroleum tank farm. The property has been cleaned up to residential standards. The Cesar Chavez Foundation is interested in developing this parcel for low-income and mixed use housing. The Govalle Affordable Housing LP is an affiliate of the Cesar Chavez Foundation in Texas and formed to work on this project. An $11 Million Bond Fund sponsored Austin Housing Finance Corporation will be the permanent financing for the acquisition and construction of 97 unit multi-family apartment community on the LU area 3 site known as Govalle Terrace. These apartments will be targeted for individuals and families of low to moderate income. The current plan is to construct a 4-story multi-family apartment community on the site. Green construction is planned with job creation for construction workers and eventually property staff. On February 9, 2017, The Austin Housing Finance Corporation approved the negotiation and execution of a loan agreement with Govalle Affordable Housing LP for an amount not to exceed $2,808,000 for a mixed income multi-family rental development to be known as the Govalle Terrace, located on Shady Lane within the thinkEAST Planned Unit Development (PUD). Govalle Terrace is the first planned project to be funded in the PUD. Former Use: The property was formerly part of a 90 acre tank farm. The tank farm was owned by 6 separate oil companies and had many release over several decades. The residents and schools nearby were concerned for their health and an environmental movement in Austin was started just to combat these companies. 30 years later the property has been cleaned up, with institutional controls for contaminated groundwater, and the property has been subdivided and sold several times.
