Additional Property Attributes

Petroleum and lead contamination was limited to a small volume of soil associated with an aboveground fuel oil tank and burned structure. NHDES used our Petroleum Cleanup Fund to remove the contaminated soil and demonstrate groundwater meets drinking water standards. Use of CERCLA 128(a) funds to assess the property allowed the NHDES to convince the regional school district to remove demolition debris buried at the property. The demolition debris (approximately 100 cubic yards) was found buried adjacent to the wetland that borders the property. The demolition debris was buried at the site by a sub-contractor to the school district's general contractor during the demolition and replacement of a former elementary school. The demolition debris fill was removed and the area was restored to its original condition and was conveyed to Town via conservation easement. (PPF - Hafford Property, 10/5/2006). Environmental Assessment Information - The Grantee reported a Phase I assessment started on 10/8/04 and completed on 9/20/05 using $44,328.12 in EPA 128(a) funds from the NH DES 2005 128(a) grant (RP97129401). As there is already an assessment being counted under the other NH DES 2005 128(a) grant (RP98190601) this assessment information will be recorded here to avoid double counting and until clarification is received from the Grantee. Former Use: Mobile home property and logging lot; tenant allowed dumping and burial of miscellaneous solid waste, building demolition debris, and automotive fluids. Residence & woodlot adjacent wetlands. Fuel oil release from AST and prior filling with demolition debris. (PPF - Hafford Property, 10/5/06)
