Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Building 2 is a World War II era, brick, concrete, and steel structure that was constructed in 1941. There are rollup doors on the north and south sides of the structure. The interior of the structure is warehouse, with concrete floors and steel beams supporting the roof. Historical aerial photographs indicate that the subject property was undeveloped land in 1938. According to Mr. Sam Laughlin with the Mobile Airport Authority, the structure was used as an automobile shop prior to 1970. A Basic Layout Plan of Brookley Field dated February 2, 1945 also indicates that the structure was occupied by an automotive shop. Historical city directories indicate that the structure on the subject property was occupied by Mobile Waste Disposal, Inc. in 1971, SCA Services of Alabama (refuse removal) from at least 1981 to at least 1985, and Charter Tire Company from at least 1990 to at least 2001. According to Mr. Russell Stallings with the Mobile Airport Authority, the eastern portion of the structure is currently being used by Phillips & Tanner Enterprises to store mattress supplies. Mr. Stallings stated that the western portion is an office/warehouse buildout for a future tenant.
