Additional Property Attributes

A soil gas investigation was conducted for the Village of Cairo in November of 1993. The investigation included eight sites thought to be contributing to groundwater contamination in the area. One of these sites was the subject property. A soil gas sample collected at the site in 1993 - then marked as an "unnamed former gas station" - contained high levels of benzene, toluene, ethlybenzene, and xylenes (BTEX). This suggests the possibility of past or current leaking underground storage tanks. This contamination could be in connection with the reported UST documented for the site. Remnants of a former fueling island, along with a former maintenance pit, can be seen on the western side of the property. Additional subsurface investigations are recommended to assess if soil or groundwater contamination is present in connection with the site's historical use as a filling station.

Former Use: The subject site has historically served as a filling station and service station prior to the 1950s. It more recently served as a private parking area for equipment and public parking area for the Village of Cairo. The Village would like to use the space for a Veterans Memorial
