Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Steubenville Marina is located at Ohio River Mile 66.2, the approximate site of the former Lock and Dam No. 10 completed in 1915 ($1,240,000). It was part of a slack-water navigation system built for the Ohio River. When the Army Corps of Engineers completed the Pike Island Locks & Dam south of Tiltonsville, OH in 1963, the Corps took Lock & Dam No. 10 out of service in 1965. The marina has two boat ramps, two shelter houses, picnic area, and an observation deck built on the remnants of a river pier that once supported the Fort Steuben Bridge that spanned over the Ohio River as US Route 22. The Ohio Department of Transportation took the Fort Steuben Bridge out of service January 8, 2009 and demolished in the Winter of 2011-12. Two former industrial sites abut the most southern portion of the subject property. An active rail line bound the entire west perimeter and a second vacated rail line.
