Former Use: 1657 River Road lies within a residential neighborhood with some light agricultural use mixed in. Garden City Harvest, local, non-profit organization, owns this property and provides community garden plots to the neighborhood, Volunteer for Veggies, CSA shares, and other services. See: http://www.gardencityharvest.org/programs/neighborhood-farms/river-road/. This property was long a portion of a larger farm. When GCH acquired the property it hosted a single-family residence, 1.5 stories, constructed in 1950. In order to better provide its services, Garden City Harvest needed to demolish the old residence and construct new facilities. EPA brownfields funding was used to abate asbestos-containing materials in the old residence.
