Additional Property Attributes

The project includes the rehabilitation of the existing building including retail (restaurant) on the first floor and residential use on the upper two floors. The project includes affordable housing and assistance through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Rental Rehabilitation Program. Building rehabilitation started in April 2017.

Former Use: The Property is located in downtown Charlotte, Eaton County, and is situated along the west side of S. Cochran Avenue. This area has been developed for residential and commercial use since at least 1886. The existing building on the property was constructed sometime before 1886 and has since been used for residential and commercial purposes including a tailor, drugstore, shoe store, and tavern. Multiple outbuildings and a bake shop existed on the west end of the Property from at least 1886 until approximately 1911. The first floor of the Property was most recently occupied by The Gavel Restaurant, and the second and third floors have been vacant for much of the memorable past.
