Additional Property Attributes

This property consists of the Former Machia Estate and the Former Highgate Town Garage parcels. The Town of Highgate is conducting a master planning effort for both sites together. Planned reuse is mixed including library, community center, and commercial and/or residential.

Former Use: The Site consists of a 0.5-acre parcel and a 0.9-acre parcel, that are located adjacent to one another on the north side of Route 78. Both parcels are currently owned by the Town of Highgate. The Site is bound by the Highgate Post Office and residences to the north, by Route 78 to the south, by a veterinary office to the east, and by St. Armand Road to the west. The Site structures consist of a former residence, garage, pole barn, associated out-buildings, and a former restaurant. Historic uses of the property include a foundry that included scrap metal storage, machine shop, gas/service station, automobile repair and sales, Town vehicle storage, barber shop, and restaurant. Currently, the buildings are vacant, and no commercial activities are occurring at the Site. The structures are empty, with the exception of miscellaneous furniture and abandoned belongings. The Town of Highgate is interested in redeveloping the Site as a library, community center, public park, mixed-use commercial, or other community use.
