Additional Property Attributes

Project Background: The scope of the project is the reclamation of the Irishtown Bend area and incorporation into the Lake Link Cleveland Metroparks trail system. A significant reach along W. 25th will transition into publicly accessible green space enabling access from Ohio City to the trail/park system and Cuyahoga River. This is a catalytic restoration project along one of the most iconic stretches of the Cuyahoga River. Funding for the project has been secured through the Clean Ohio Conservation Program ($1.4 million) as well as NOACA and private sources. Phase I complete. Several RECs were identified including portions of the parcels historically used for auto repair and fueling services. The eastern portion of the property was developed by a glass company in the early 1900s. Based upon the hazardous nature of the historical operations, it is possible that the facility adversely impacted the property also. Adjacent and surrounding sites also included former filling and industrial operations. A Phase II was recommended and is being considered by the applicant in discussion with property owners. Developer is also searching for funds for demolition of the two CHMA owned properties on this site. Demolition needs to occur to take advantage of the other funding opportunities.

Former Use: The large parcel has two buildings on it. Both are unoccupied and owned by the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA). The first building, on the southern portion of the parcel, is a three story, apartment building that was built in 1963. The second building, on the northern portion of the parcel, is a vacant, multi-story office building built in 1971. The parcel is under contract for acquisition by West Creek Conservancy. LAND Studio, the lead planning agency for this project, submitted the application for EPA assessment funding.
