Additional Property Attributes

Fire insurance maps dated 1885 through 1912 show the western portion of the property developed with uses including a livery, wagon yard, various other commercial uses, and residential. A garage with a 250-gallon gasoline tank is shown on the southwestern portion of the property on the 1912 fire insurance map. The 1950 fire insurance map shows the Troy Laundry, including a dry cleaning operation, and an auto repair shop on the western portion of the property and the Brookshire Ice Cream Company and two electric shops on the eastern portion of the property. City directories list the Troy Laundry at the subject property through 1972. Information from the Lauderdale County Tax Assessor indicates that the City of Meridian purchased the property in 1973 and construction of the police station began in 1975. The property served as the Meridian Police Station until it was vacated in 2013. The property has remained vacant since that time.
