Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Standard and other historical sources document that the subject property was developed between 1909 and 1915 with a stable. A cotton warehouse and seed warehouse were constructed in the eastern and southeastern portion between 1915 and 1925. Between 1925 and 1936, a blacksmith repair shop was constructed in the northwest corner; the cotton warehouse was converted to a feed mill; and an automotive repair shop was constructed in the central portion. Also during this time, the seed warehouse was demolished and a store constructed in its place with a gasoline tank depicted north of the store and another directly south of the store in the road rightof-way. Between 1963 and 1975, the eastern building and auto repair building were demolished, the current southeastern store building remained, and the two current additional buildings were constructed in the other two corners. The northwestern building was converted to an automotive repair garage in at least 1977 (and likely from at least 1959 when Mr. Douglas of Douglas Garage purchased the property). According to information obtained online from the DeSoto TimesTribune, the property had been occupied by a grist mill in the central portion, a grocery store, and a gasoline station with a store. Based on a lack of available historical records, PM was unable to determine the exact dates of operations from each of the various occupants.
