Additional Property Attributes

The City of Spearfish will be the direct owner of the property. The City would like to maintain the option of changing zoning from heavy industrial to highway commercial and park/open space. The property located along Colorado Blvd would be evaluated for commercial lot sales through Spearfish Economic Development Corp. The preliminary plan for the remaining property is for public recreation and other municipal use. Some of the uses under revievl 'nclude ball fields, soccer fields, recreation path extensions, park or playground develcpment, police substation, fire substation, municipal well, etc. A full evaluation and community input wil! be necessary. Community garden space and a city tree nursery have also been identified as a need and could be accommodated on the site Former Use: The site has been used as a sawmill facility over the last 30-40 years. Raw logs were delivered to the site for dimensional lumber processing. This included de-barking, cutting, planer operations, and kiln drying. Stacking of raw logs and finished lumber occurred at the site. The mill operated and maintained equipment on the site and has an established "shop area" (located on the map). Shop and equipment operations included fueling and oil use with storage areas (located on the map). The sawmill shut down operations in 2015-2016, and equipment was sold and removed from the site.
