Former Use: The Site consists of three parcels, which comprise approximately 383-acres of land, north and south of Governor Chittenden Road, in the Town of Williston. The Site is located in a rural portion of the Town of Williston. There are trails throughout the Site, mostly used for recreational purposes (biking/hiking/skiing). A Phase I ESA was completed in December 2017. One Recognized Environmental Condition was identified: Petroleum contamination related to a removed 500-gallon gasoline UST. An Initial Site Investigation was completed in April 2018. The data collected during this investigation indicated that groundwater enforcement standards were exceeded in two monitoring wells, and evidence of elevated PID readings were observed in three monitoring wells. Subsurface contamination is limited and is not widespread at the Site. Soil and groundwater contamination appears to be confined to an approximately 1,000 square foot area in the vicinity of, and downgradient from, the former gasoline UST. While the eastern most edge of the groundwater plume was not defined by this investigation, it likely terminates in the vicinity of MW-2 given the lower levels of contaminants detected at that sample. The soil and groundwater contamination begins approximately 3 feet below grade in the vicinity of the former UST , and is deeper in the downgradient direction, between 4 and 8 feet below grade. Therefore, it would unlikely for casual Site users to come into contact with contaminated soil or groundwater while utilizing the recreation trails on the Site. A Groundwater Monitoring event occurred in November 2018. This monitoring event confirmed the findings of the Initial Site Investigation, with slight decreases in contaminant concentrations noted.
