Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Grantee stated that the information is provided in Former Valley Cinder Company 1 submission which is excerpted below: "The site was farmland in the late 1940s, and then operated as a quarry for approximately 70 years. The mining of cinder has not occurred for approximately 10 years. Various materials and areas of the site needed to be evaluated. This included containers and tanks with various chemicals that were apparently used during the operation of the quarry, but records of the amounts and types do not exist or are not readily ascertainable. Three main structures are present within the pit. These have been designated as the upper house, lower house, and shop. Abandoned heavy equipment and trucks are scattered throughout the pit. Other items in the pit include chemical containers of various sizes, an AST, two USTs, and debris. Power poles are present with electrical lines extending to the shop and other areas. The pit is an elongated, slightly arc shaped feature that is nearly 1,500 feet long and approximately 250 feet wide at its widest point. The deepest areas of the pit may be approximately 70 feet deep. The pit encompasses an area of approximately 6.5 acres, however the entire property consists two parcels that total almost 29 acres. The property is surrounded by agricultural land. A canal forms most of the eastern and northern site boundary. Past ownership- L.W. Freiburghaus. The Boise Project Board of Control (BPBC) is considering purchasing the site. BPBC is an entity that manages irrigation facilities for several irrigation districts in the Treasure Valley. Their interest in the site is three-fold: To mine cinder that would be used to line the banks of canals; To have the pit available for emergency water diversion; and Potentially use the pit for aquifer recharge."
