Property Highlights

Former Use: The subject property is located at 1161 Cedar Street in Laramie, Wyoming and occupies 1.3 acres in the southeast corner of the former Standard Oil refinery site. There are currently no structures on the subject property. The subject property was likely first developed in 1919 when Midwest Refining Company (Midwest) began building a crude oil refinery that encompassed the surrounding area. Midwest sold a portion of the southeast corner of their refinery site to Standard Oil Company (Standard Oil), who constructed and operated the refinery stills on the south adjoining property. Standard Oil refined crude oil into gasoline, kerosene, furnace oil, distillate, fuel oil, and various grades of road oils. The stills were connected to rundown tanks along what is now Cedar Street. The refinery operated until 1932 and by 1947 the rundown tanks were removed, and the subject property was vacant.
