Additional Property Attributes

The City is planning to redevelop the property west of the Hughes County Building. The Hughes County Building is included as a potential piece of property for sale. This will potentially improve the ability to draw a developer. Once the property is developed it will increase sales tax revenue to benefit the Pierre community. The first step is to assess the property for potential contamination (Phase I) and for the presence of lead/asbestos. Former Use: Historical resources suggests the site was vacant or agricultural land until about 1884 when 1-2 dwellings were constructed on-site. The first commercial uses of the site apparently began in about 1898. Commercial uses have included blacksmith and wagon shop, paint shop, store house, an auto service building (1927), a motor freight building, an auto repair building with a gas tank (1941 and 1952), electric appliances, and an office building.
